Trigeminal Neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia causes sudden, severe facial pain from irritation of the trigeminal nerve. Care is led by your doctor or specialist, with physiotherapy offering supportive pain and function management.

Understanding trigeminal neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition that causes sudden, intense facial pain along the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from the face to the brain. The pain is often described as a sharp, electric shock or stabbing sensation on one side of the face. Everyday actions such as talking, chewing, brushing teeth, shaving or even a light touch can trigger an attack. Episodes may be brief but can occur in bursts and are usually very distressing.

Trigeminal neuralgia is often caused by a blood vessel pressing on the nerve, though it can also be linked to other medical conditions, so proper diagnosis by a doctor is essential. Treatment is led medically, usually with specific medication and, in some cases, specialist procedures. Physiotherapy does not treat the nerve itself and is not a cure. Our role is adjunctive, helping with jaw, neck and posture related tension and supporting overall function while your medical team leads your care.

How we help

Treating trigeminal neuralgia at Rehoboth

Every plan starts with a thorough assessment and a written plan you can actually read. Same-week appointments across five Grand Cayman clinics.

Because trigeminal neuralgia is a medical condition, we always confirm you are under the care of a doctor or specialist first, and we refer promptly if you are not. Our assessment looks at contributing factors we can help with, such as jaw tension, neck stiffness and posture that may add to your discomfort. We never claim to treat the nerve itself. Instead we focus on gentle, supportive care that respects how sensitive your face may be.

Supportive physiotherapy may include gentle manual therapy for the neck and jaw, relaxation and breathing techniques, posture advice and graded activity to keep you moving and reduce secondary tension. We coordinate closely with your GP, neurologist or dentist so your care stays joined up. If your pain changes or worsens, we help you get medical review quickly. Our aim is to support your comfort, function and confidence, not to replace the medical treatment that leads this condition.

Trigeminal Neuralgia questions, answered

No. Trigeminal neuralgia is a medical condition led by your doctor or specialist, usually with medication or procedures, and physiotherapy does not cure it. Our role is adjunctive, easing related jaw, neck and posture tension and supporting your function and comfort.

It plays a supportive role alongside your medical care. We can gently address neck and jaw tension, posture and stress that may add to your discomfort, and help you stay active. We always work with your GP or specialist and refer when needed.

Yes. Sudden or severe facial pain needs medical assessment to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes, so see your GP or a specialist first. Our general practice and telemedicine teams in Grand Cayman can help arrange this quickly.

We offer supportive care alongside your medical team, not a standalone cure, at our five Grand Cayman clinics with same-week appointments. We coordinate with your doctor or specialist and bill CINICO and major insurers directly.
