Joint Pain
Joint pain in the knees, hips, shoulders or hands can limit the things you love. Physiotherapy eases pain and rebuilds the strength that keeps your joints moving well.
Understanding joint pain
Joint pain is discomfort, aching or stiffness in one or more joints such as the knees, hips, shoulders, hands or ankles. It can come from the joint surfaces, the surrounding ligaments and tendons, or from inflammation within the joint itself. Some joint pain follows an obvious injury or overuse, while some builds gradually with age related wear, or arthritis. It may affect a single joint or several at once, and can range from a mild niggle to pain that limits daily life.
Because joints depend on the muscles and movement patterns around them, weakness, stiffness and poor loading often make the pain worse. The reassuring part is that most joint pain responds well to the right exercise and hands-on care, and staying active in a safe, graded way usually helps rather than harms. A careful assessment tells us which structures are involved and whether the pain is mechanical or points to an inflammatory or systemic cause that needs a doctor's input.
Signs to look out for
- Aching or tenderness in one or more joints
- Stiffness, especially in the morning or after rest
- Swelling, warmth or puffiness around a joint
- Grinding, clicking or a catching sensation
- Reduced range of movement
- Pain that worsens with activity or weight bearing
- Weakness or a feeling that the joint may give way
Why it happens
- Osteoarthritis and age related joint wear
- Overuse or repetitive strain
- Previous joint injury
- Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis or gout
- Excess body weight loading the joints
- Muscle weakness and poor joint mechanics
Treating joint pain at Rehoboth
Every plan starts with a thorough assessment and a written plan you can actually read. Same-week appointments across five Grand Cayman clinics.
Your first visit is a thorough assessment of the painful joint, the muscles around it and how you move, so we can identify what is driving your symptoms and rule out causes that need medical review. We then set a personalised plan. Hands-on physiotherapy and joint mobilisation improve movement and comfort, while shockwave therapy, ultrasound, laser and TENS can settle stubborn pain and inflammation around the joint and its tendons.
The core of lasting relief is a graded strengthening and mobility programme that supports the joint and improves how it handles load. We add balance work, taping and activity advice, and guide weight management through our wellness programs where that would ease the load on the joint. When the pattern suggests an inflammatory or systemic cause, we work alongside your doctor and refer for tests or specialist care. Same-week appointments are available across Grand Cayman.

Joint Pain questions, answered
Yes. Physiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for joint pain, easing symptoms with hands-on care and rebuilding the strength and mobility that protect the joint. Staying active in a guided, graded way usually helps joint pain rather than making it worse.
Joint pain can come from wear such as osteoarthritis, overuse, past injury, or inflammatory conditions, and sometimes from the muscles around the joint. Our assessment identifies the likely cause and flags any signs that need a doctor's review or tests.
No referral is needed to see our physiotherapists, and many joint problems are diagnosed from a clinical assessment. If we suspect an inflammatory or serious cause, we work alongside your doctor and arrange imaging or blood tests when appropriate.
Many people notice a difference within a few weeks of a targeted exercise and treatment plan, though longer standing joint pain takes more time. Your physiotherapist sets realistic goals and adjusts the plan as your strength and movement improve.
Yes. We see joint pain at all five of our Grand Cayman clinics, including George Town, Savannah, Seven Mile Beach and West Bay. We offer same-week appointments and bill CINICO and major insurers directly.
Other musculoskeletal conditions we treat
Back and Neck Pain
Back and neck pain can make everyday movement, work and sleep difficult. Physiotherapy and chiropractic care ease pain and restore movement so you can get back to normal.
Muscle Pain
Muscle pain, tightness and stubborn knots can nag for weeks. Hands-on physiotherapy and dry needling release tense muscles and help you move freely and comfortably again.
Strains and Sprains
A strain or sprain can happen in an instant and needs the right care from day one. Physiotherapy settles pain and rebuilds strength for a safe return to activity.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis causes joint pain and stiffness as cartilage wears over time. Physiotherapy helps you stay active, build strength and manage symptoms long term.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition that inflames the joints. Alongside your doctor, physiotherapy helps keep you mobile, strong and functioning well.
Tenosynovitis
Tenosynovitis is inflammation of the sheath around a tendon, often in the wrist and thumb. Physiotherapy calms the irritation and restores pain-free movement.
