Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain can limit reaching, lifting and sleep. Physiotherapy and shockwave therapy ease the pain and restore the strength and movement you rely on.
Understanding shoulder pain
Shoulder pain is common because the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which makes it powerful but also vulnerable. Pain often comes from the rotator cuff tendons, the bursa, or the joint capsule, and it can build gradually through overuse and poor posture or appear after a strain or fall. Because we use our shoulders constantly, even minor problems can quickly affect reaching, dressing, lifting and sleeping on the affected side.
The most common shoulder problems we see are rotator cuff pain and impingement, calcific tendinitis, and frozen shoulder, where the joint capsule tightens and movement is lost. Most respond well to the right physiotherapy, and understanding which structure is involved is key, because the plan for a stiff frozen shoulder is very different from an irritated rotator cuff. A careful assessment gives us that answer.
Signs to look out for
- Pain on reaching overhead or behind your back
- Pain lying on the affected shoulder at night
- Weakness when lifting or carrying
- Stiffness and loss of movement in the joint
- Clicking, catching or a painful arc of movement
- Pain that spreads into the upper arm
Why it happens
- Rotator cuff strain, tendinopathy or tears
- Shoulder impingement and bursitis
- Calcific tendinitis
- Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
- Poor posture and desk or overhead work
- A fall, strain or previous injury
Treating shoulder pain at Rehoboth
Every plan starts with a thorough assessment and a written plan you can actually read. Same-week appointments across five Grand Cayman clinics.
Your first visit is a detailed assessment of the shoulder, neck and how you move, so we can identify the exact source of your pain and screen for any cause that needs imaging or a specialist. Early treatment settles pain with hands-on physiotherapy, joint and soft-tissue mobilisation, and, for stubborn calcific or rotator cuff pain, shockwave therapy, which has strong evidence for chronic shoulder tendon problems.
As pain eases we progress to a targeted programme of rotator cuff and shoulder blade strengthening, mobility work and posture retraining to restore control and prevent recurrence. For frozen shoulder we use a staged approach of gentle mobilisation and graded stretching matched to the phase of the condition. We coordinate with your doctor for injections or referral when needed, and same-week appointments are available across Grand Cayman.

Shoulder Pain questions, answered
Yes. Physiotherapy is a first line treatment for most shoulder pain, using hands-on therapy and targeted exercise to settle symptoms and rebuild the strength and control of the rotator cuff and shoulder blade, so movement returns and pain stays away.
Frozen shoulder is treated with a staged plan matched to the phase of the condition, combining gentle joint mobilisation, graded stretching and pain relief. Recovery takes time, and your physiotherapist guides you through each stage and coordinates with your doctor if an injection would help.
Yes, for the right cases. Shockwave therapy has strong evidence for calcific tendinitis and chronic rotator cuff pain that has not settled with conservative care, and we combine it with a progressive strengthening programme for lasting results.
Many shoulder problems are diagnosed from a clinical assessment and improve without a scan. If we suspect a significant tear or another cause that needs imaging, we arrange it and coordinate with your doctor or a specialist.
Yes. We treat shoulder pain at all five of our Grand Cayman clinics, including George Town, Savannah, Seven Mile Beach and West Bay, with same-week appointments and direct billing to CINICO and major insurers.
Other musculoskeletal conditions we treat
Back and Neck Pain
Back and neck pain can make everyday movement, work and sleep difficult. Physiotherapy and chiropractic care ease pain and restore movement so you can get back to normal.
Joint Pain
Joint pain in the knees, hips, shoulders or hands can limit the things you love. Physiotherapy eases pain and rebuilds the strength that keeps your joints moving well.
Muscle Pain
Muscle pain, tightness and stubborn knots can nag for weeks. Hands-on physiotherapy and dry needling release tense muscles and help you move freely and comfortably again.
Strains and Sprains
A strain or sprain can happen in an instant and needs the right care from day one. Physiotherapy settles pain and rebuilds strength for a safe return to activity.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis causes joint pain and stiffness as cartilage wears over time. Physiotherapy helps you stay active, build strength and manage symptoms long term.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition that inflames the joints. Alongside your doctor, physiotherapy helps keep you mobile, strong and functioning well.
