Functional Rehabilitation

Functional rehabilitation rebuilds the real world movements your work, sport and daily life demand, so you return strong and confident.

What to expect

Functional rehabilitation is physiotherapy focused on the movements your life actually demands, from lifting a child and carrying shopping to sprinting, squatting or swinging a racquet. Rather than training muscles in isolation, we rebuild the whole patterns you rely on so they feel strong and dependable again. At Rehoboth this bridges the gap between early recovery and a full return to work, sport and everyday activity in Grand Cayman.

Treatment starts by identifying the specific tasks you are struggling with and the strength, mobility or control that is missing. We then design a personalised programme that gradually loads those movements, building strength, balance, coordination and confidence in stages. As you improve we add real world challenges that match your job or sport, so by the end you are ready for the demands of daily life rather than just exercises on a mat.

How it works

Your functional rehabilitation journey

Assessment first, a clear written plan, then treatment and review. You always know the next step.

Step 1

Functional assessment

Your first visit is a functional assessment. We talk through the tasks and activities you need to get back to, then test your strength, mobility, balance and control to find exactly what is holding you back. You receive a clear, written plan built around your personal goals.

Step 2

Progressive programme

We design a progressive programme that loads the movements your life demands, building strength, coordination and confidence in stages. Sessions blend targeted exercise with hands on therapy where needed, and the difficulty steps up as you improve so each week takes you closer to full activity.

Step 3

Return and maintain

As you near your goal we add challenges that mirror your job or sport, then teach you how to maintain your gains and reduce the chance of re-injury. We review progress throughout and adjust the plan so your return to work or sport is safe and lasting.

Good to know

Functional Rehabilitation questions, answered

Functional rehabilitation focuses on rebuilding the specific movements your work, sport or daily life require, rather than treating pain alone. It usually follows the early stage of recovery and prepares you for a full, confident return to activity. Both are delivered by our registered physiotherapists.

You can return to sport once you can meet its demands safely, which we test as part of your programme. The timeline depends on your injury and goals, so your written plan sets clear milestones. We progress you in stages to lower the risk of re-injury.
