Magnetotherapy

Magnetotherapy uses pulsed magnetic fields to calm inflammation and encourage healing in bone, joint and soft tissue injuries, without needles or downtime.

What to expect

Magnetotherapy, also called pulsed magnetic field therapy, sends gentle magnetic pulses through an injured area to influence the way your cells work. The field is thought to improve local blood flow and support the natural repair of bone and soft tissue. At Rehoboth we use it as one part of a wider physiotherapy plan, reaching for it when swelling, slow healing or persistent joint pain is holding back your recovery in Grand Cayman.

During a session you rest comfortably while a magnetic applicator sits over or around the treatment site. You feel nothing while it runs, because the pulses are painless and do not heat the skin, so it can be used over light clothing and dressings. Sessions usually last around twenty minutes and are often paired with hands on therapy and exercise, so the tissue is supported while you rebuild strength and movement across a short course of visits.

How it works

Your magnetotherapy journey

Assessment first, a clear written plan, then treatment and review. You always know the next step.

Step 1

Assessment first

Your visit begins with a full physiotherapy assessment so we understand the cause of your symptoms and confirm that magnetotherapy is safe and suitable for you. We check for anything that would rule it out and give you a clear, written plan before any treatment starts.

Step 2

Magnetic field treatment

You settle into a comfortable position while the applicator is placed over the injured area. The session runs quietly for around twenty minutes with nothing for you to do, and it is often combined with hands on treatment in the same visit to make the most of your time.

Step 3

Exercise and review

We add exercises to rebuild strength and movement, then track your response and adjust the plan as you improve. Magnetotherapy usually works best across a short course of sessions rather than a single visit, so we agree the schedule with you at the start.

Good to know

Magnetotherapy questions, answered

No, magnetotherapy is completely painless and most people feel nothing at all during a session. The applicator does not heat the area or touch broken skin, so you can simply rest while it works.

It depends on your injury and how long it has been present, though many people have a short course of several sessions. Your written plan sets out the likely number and we review progress as we go.

Magnetotherapy is not suitable if you have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, and we take extra care during pregnancy. Your physiotherapist checks your history first and will suggest a safe alternative if needed.
